About The Simple Portrait

Photography is art. The sculptor uses rock and chisel, the painter uses pigment and canvas, and the modern digital photographer uses a camera and a computer. Specifically, my art is in capturing a moment. The moment can be joy, anguish, excitement, beauty, disgust -- the whole gamut of emotion. You can pose for a photograph, but it will not define a moment. When you see the photo over the years, it will not recall a memory. It is sterile. So what I endeavor to do is turn the lowly snapshot into a masterpiece. A quick slice of time that, in and of itself, tells a whole story in the hundredth a second it took to record the image. And with this small slice of time, I bring out the beauty, conjure the sadness, or sculpt the joy of the moment. |
